THE FOUNDERS

 In the past few years I have become concerned for the citizens of the United States of America.....as well as for the citizens of every country.

 I originally created these 'America' pages out of my Love for this Land, out of my Respect for the brave and industrious People who braved hardships to come here and who made of this Land a Country like no other in all of recorded history. And all in the space of a few hundred years the country became strong in many ways....became one of the leaders of the 'free world'. The people worked hard....and lived well.

But now (2010) something has changed....over the past fifty years, something has happened to the patriotic furor of the average American man and woman....today the 'old Spiritual ways' appear to be pushed aside....not only here in America but world wide.

Thus today many Americans are awakening....and are examining again the philosophy and beliefs of those early patriots we call the Founders. We are again examining the Principles upon which this country, the United States of America, was founded....especially the 'God-Principles' of Freedom upon which this Country was founded.

Today some say America has turned away from its Spiritual Foundation...away from the Spiritual Focus which was foremost and  powerful in the minds of those who gave 'their lives and fortunes' to found a country ....a Country they founded upon Christian values....

"To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian. The signal Instances of providential Goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labours with complete Success, demand from us in a peculiar manner the warmest returns of Gratitude and Piety to the Supreme Author of all Good." --George Washington.

So far in this website, not much has been said about one individual without whose efforts there might never have been the Christian Country of America.

It goes without saying that I love the greatest of our Presidents, George Washington and understand his importance in the Founding....and admire all others who participated in the various gatherings and activity that brought forth our proclamations of Liberty and Freedom...

but among 'those others' it is Dr. Benjamin Franklin who has always grabbed my attention....for a study of his life suggests that without his constant and continual participation at many levels of personal endeavor and public service over a long life, we might still be a British Colony. There might not have been the United States of America.

And today (2012) when ideas of personal responsibility are being debated here are some of his words on the subject.....

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." --Benjamin Franklin, "Management of the Poor" (1766)

 

On Pride

Ben Franklin on Liberty

Americans remember Benjamin Franklin as one of our founding fathers. And well they should, as he was not just our most famous citizen at our country's birth, he was a central part of that birth.   

As a member of the Second Continental Congress, Franklin helped draft the Declaration of Independence. As a member of the Constitutional Convention, he helped draft the Constitution. Both documents bear his signature. He also signed the Treaty of Alliance with France, bringing the colonies French aid against the British, and The Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War and recognized the independence of the United States. He was the only person, in fact, to sign all of these key documents.

Franklin's role in our founding has, however, been eclipsed in modern memory by his many other accomplishments.  He was a prolific inventor whose inventions ran the gamut from his trademark bifocals to the Franklin Stove to artificial fertilizer.  He ran his own paper and published Poor Richard's Almanac.  He even published the first political cartoon in the colonies. He founded the University of Pennsylvania, as well as America's  first public library and public hospital.  His discoveries went far beyond his famous kite experiment, and included the identification of lead poisoning and the discovery and charting of ocean currents.

Unfortunately, the result has been that attention which deserves to be paid to what Franklin said about America and the liberty it was designed to protect has often been crowded out by that paid to his other accomplishments. 

 It is worth remembering some of those inspirational words.

  • They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety...

     

  • Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God and nature.

     

  • This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties.  A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. 

     It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins.

     

  • ...it is a common observation here that our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own.

  • Where liberty dwells, there is my country.

     

  • ...a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles ...is absolutely necessary to preserve the blessings of liberty and keep a government free.

     

  • Without freedom of thought there can be no such thing as wisdom; and no such thing as public liberty, without freedom of speech.

     

  • Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.

     

  • When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

     

  • Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

     

  • Sell not...liberty to purchase power.

     

  • In free governments, the rulers are the servants and the people their superiors and sovereigns.  

     

  • Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.  As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.

     

  • I hope...that all mankind will at length, as they call themselves reasonable creatures, have reason and sense enough to settle their differences without cutting throats; for in my opinion there never was a good war or a bad peace.

     

  • Men will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants.

     

  • Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.

     

  • The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness.  You have to catch it yourself.

At the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Franklin reflected the risk and unity of purpose that led to America's founding when he said,

 "Gentlemen, we must now hang together, or we shall most assuredly hang separately." 

 But he also knew how uncertain was the maintenance of the vision of liberty which animated our founders....for he said....

  • Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in the world nothing can be certain except death and taxes.

     

  • History affords us many instances of the ruin of states...the ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy...An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part is entitled to, and ought to enjoy...

Benjamin Franklin made clear the ultimate intended result of America's experiment in liberty, when he said, "God grant that not only the love of liberty but a thorough knowledge of the rights of man may pervade all the nations of the earth, so that a philosopher may set his foot anywhere on its surface and say: This is my country." 

 As we reflect on the political developments of our day, we should take a moment to reflect on how far we have strayed in the past sixty years from that goal, and ask how new life can be brought to that Ideal which America was intended to embody.

 It is my hope that Citizens of this Country and those of all other Countries and Cultures will feel their Hearts swelling with Love and with Pride as they each strive for and identify with the goals of Freedom and Equality in the Country in which they live....always remembering that we are all Spiritual Brothers and Sisters of a Greater Cosmic Country....God's Universe.....

Always remembering that we all have the responsibility to love and protect whatever God Hath Wrought in whatever Place we now find ourselves. All Land is God's Land. All Life is God Life. May all People in every Land identify with that Truth! 

 Citizens of every nation can and should decree and pray for God-Liberty for every country with Love and Compassion for all people. 

I do it this Way....

   In the Name of Almighty God,

in the Name of my own 'I AM' Presence and Holy Christ Self...

and the Christ Self of each of mankind,

I 'ask'...in full consciousness of what that means....

I ask that all mankind may be taught to understand the need for

Liberty.

As we all pray together let us invoke 'Greater God-good' everywhere throughout the world....Let us ask to be led to Greater God-Freedom and Liberty....to Invincible Peace and Grace everywhere....to the descent of The Cosmic Christ Essence and the Ascended Master Consciousness of Freedom....asking Those Greater Levels of Godness to take control of everything and everybody everywhere throughout the world....of everything that does not embody Freedom.

In God's Holy Name, we ask for God-Direction to lead us to Divine Freedom...we ask that Peace and Grace expand everywhere throughout the world, DISSOLVING any 'line of impure energy' that sets one group of people against another.'

In deepest Gratitude we ask this in the Name of Almighty God

and in the name of our own Mighty 'I AM' Presence,

'knowing our Call to God compels the Answer'.
